Boston University students and protesters recently left the George Sherman Union after a demonstration demanding BU declare itself a sanctuary campus. Following this, the Center for Gender, Sexuality, and Activism, located in the same building, was broken into and ransacked. Pictures shared on social media showed extensive damage, with posters torn down, flags taken off walls, and furniture flipped over. The incident targeted Palestine-related material, earning calls of a hate crime. Despite this, BU officials have remained silent on the matter, prompting criticism from the student groups affected. The BU Police Department is actively investigating the incident, while the center remains open to students. Additionally, the BU Young Democratic Socialists faced suspension after a separate incident involving demands for sanctuary status, with the group now banned from meeting in the CGSA room. Despite these challenges, the various student groups remain vocal about their continued activism and commitment to creating a safer and more equitable campus.
