Man found guilty of murder of Maryland mother

In 2023, Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez was found guilty of the murder of Rachel Morin, a Maryland woman who was attacked on a hiking trail in Bel Air. Martinez-Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder, rape, sex offenses, and kidnapping, and authorities linked him to a previous crime in El Salvador and a home invasion in Los Angeles. Morin’s body was found in a wooded area near the trail, and evidence presented in court showed that Martinez-Hernandez planned and executed the attack. After a 10-month nationwide search, he was arrested in Oklahoma in June 2024. Martinez-Hernandez claimed he had never been to Maryland, but evidence suggested otherwise.

Following Martinez-Hernandez’s arrest, Morin’s family spoke at the Republican National Convention, criticizing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their immigration policies. They praised former President Donald Trump for offering condolences after Morin’s death and highlighted the case to advocate for immigration reform. Trump recently met with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele to discuss cooperation in addressing issues related to gang members and detainees. The case of Rachel Morin has become a focal point in discussions about immigration policy and public safety at the national level.
