A recent report from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) revealed that California, New York, and Massachusetts have been the primary culprits in fraudulent unemployment payments totaling $382 million since 2020. These Democrat-led states accounted for $305 million in improper claim payments, with California alone responsible for 68% of benefits disbursed to parolees on the government’s terrorist watchlist or with criminal records under former President Joe Biden.
DOGE also found that these states, all controlled by Democratic trifectas, have mismanaged their economies, leading to high taxes and poor stewardship of taxpayer dollars, driving residents to Republican-led states. White House spokesperson Harrison Fields highlighted the negative impact of progressive policies, emphasizing the support for DOGE’s work in uncovering fraud.
In addition to fraudulent unemployment benefits going to recipients listed as over 115 years old or with nonexistent birthdates, DOGE discovered that the Biden administration allowed over 6,000 individuals with criminal records or flagged on the FBI’s terror watchlist to enter the country with minimal screening. Many of these individuals were able to collect public benefits, including unemployment insurance, federal student loans, food stamps, and tax refunds.
The Trump administration’s policy of ending parole for those with criminal backgrounds or terror watchlist flags was mentioned in contrast to the practices under Biden. The Labor Department, led by Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, emphasized its commitment to recovering stolen tax dollars and rooting out egregious fraud.
