In a game between the Springfield Thunderbirds and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, now rebranded as the Carbondale UFOs, the Thunderbirds fell short with a 4-1 loss. Rookie forward Jacob Hudson made an impressive debut, scoring the first goal just 1:45 into the game. However, the Carbondale UFOs quickly responded with two goals in a 20-second blitz in the first period, taking the lead 2-1 heading into the intermission.
Throughout the game, the Carbondale UFOs continued to dominate offensively, outshooting the Thunderbirds 44-23. Despite an impressive 40-save effort from Thunderbirds netminder Colten Ellis, the Carbondale UFOs managed to extend their lead with another goal in the third period, ultimately winning the game 4-1. Emil Bemstrom sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with 1:31 remaining in the game.
Despite the loss, the Thunderbirds look ahead to their final two games of the regular season against the Charlotte Checkers at the Thunderdome next weekend. The Thunderbirds will aim to regroup and finish the season strong as they prepare for the playoffs. The Carbondale UFOs, on the other hand, continue their impressive performance as they look to secure their spot in the upcoming postseason. Stay tuned for more exciting AHL action as the regular season comes to a close.
