Scheduled Hearings For Alleged Buyers in High-End Brothel Case – NBC Boston

A series of hearings beginning Friday will reveal the names of individuals connected to a high-end brothel bust, where clients were offered women and services in luxury apartments in Cambridge, Watertown, and the D.C. area. Three people running the ring have been arrested and sentenced, but the names of clients, described as elected officials, doctors, military officers, and government contractors, were initially kept private.

The battle to keep client names confidential made its way to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, where it was ultimately decided that the hearings should be public to address concerns of favoritism and bias. The first group of names was read in court on Friday, with only two clients, Mark Zhu and Jason Han, appearing. Charges against them were read, with Zhu expressing no criminal record and Han risking job loss at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Despite protests from attorneys like Howard Cooper and Kevin Mahoney, who argued against public hearings for John Durant and David Lacava, more hearings are scheduled for March. Those who did not show up for the initial hearings are urged to attend arraignments to avoid facing consequences.

While the alleged ringleaders of the network have pleaded guilty, the New England U.S. Attorney’s office is laying out new charges, emphasizing that the brothel targeted wealthy and well-connected individuals. The investigation into this case and the subsequent hearings provide transparency in addressing illicit activities and holding individuals accountable.
