The Boston Red Sox narrowly avoided being swept by the Chicago White Sox on Garrett Crochet’s near-perfect pitching performance. Crochet threw 5 perfect innings and had a no-hitter broken up by a hit from Chase Meidroth. Trevor Story provided the offense with a two-run double and a homer to secure the 3-1 win. Despite a shaky performance from the bullpen, Aroldis Chapman closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning.
Danvers native Shane Smith pitched well for the White Sox against his hometown team and Kristian Campbell extended his on-base streak to 16 games. As the Red Sox head to Tampa for a series against the Rays, they will face tough pitching matchups. The series will be played at Steinbrenner Field, the temporary home of the Rays for the 2025 season. Tanner Houck will face Shane Baz, Walker Buehler will face Ryan Pepiot, and the Red Sox are TBD for the third game against Zack Littell.
