The Department of Homeland Security has sent a notice to Nicole Micheroni, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, asking her to leave the country within seven days. Micheroni, a partner at an immigration law firm in Boston, received a terse email stating that her parole had been terminated and that she must depart immediately. This development comes as the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has been terminating parole for individuals without legal status, impacting over 900,000 people who entered the country through the CBP One app.
While Micheroni expressed disbelief at the situation and questioned if the email was intended for her, she highlighted the confusion and fear among individuals who receive such notices without clear information on their status or exemptions. The DHS spokesperson confirmed that notifications were sent via email but stated that any unintended recipients could reach out for clarification.
Despite the unsettling situation, Micheroni remains hopeful that she will not be deported within the specified timeframe. The firm she is associated with did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.
