Boston Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello showed impressive velocity in his third rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Friday. Despite allowing three runs over four innings, Bello reached 97.8 mph with his sinker, averaging 95.8 mph on 29 sinkers. In total, he threw 64 pitches with a 70.3% strike rate and induced 12 swings-and-misses.
Manager Alex Cora expressed his desire to see Bello progress to five innings before being activated. Despite Bello’s performance, Worcester lost 9-2 to Columbus, with Roman Anthony standing out at the plate. Anthony, ranked No. 2 on Baseball America’s Top 100 list, went 3-for-4 with two doubles. His hits included a leadoff double at 103.8 mph, a two-run double at 103.7 mph, and a single at 107.6 mph.
Anthony’s strong showing raised his batting average to .237 with a .396 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage, resulting in an OPS of .896. In 11 games, he has recorded two homers, two doubles, one triple, six RBIs, six runs, 10 walks, and 15 strikeouts.
Overall, the Red Sox saw positive performances from both Bello and Anthony in Friday’s game, despite the team’s loss to Columbus. The progress made by Bello in his rehab start and Anthony’s consistent hitting provide encouraging signs for the team moving forward.
