Boston Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello is inching closer to a return to the rotation after experiencing right shoulder soreness during spring training. Bello made his third rehab start with the Worcester Red Sox and expressed feeling “100 percent healthy” after the outing. The 24-year-old righty tossed four innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out five batters. With a strong performance and increased pitch count, Bello believes he is ready to return to the major league.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora stated that Bello needs to reach five innings in a start before being activated, but Bello remains uncertain whether he will need another Triple-A rehab outing. If another start is required, Bello could pitch on April 16 for Worcester and potentially start for Boston against the White Sox on April 21. However, if he is deemed ready, Bello could take over Sean Newcomb’s spot in the rotation and make his 2025 debut against the Rays.
Newcomb has struggled in his three starts this season, posting a 4.97 ERA through 12 2/3 innings and allowing 20 hits and seven walks. The Red Sox may be looking to shake things up in their rotation and give Bello the opportunity to showcase his talents. With Bello feeling confident and healthy, the Red Sox could soon see a boost in their pitching staff with his potential return.
