Reportedly, Red Sox sign experienced catcher Yasmani Grandal to contract

The Boston Red Sox have signed former All-Star Yasmani Grandal to a minor league contract in response to catcher Connor Wong breaking his finger. Grandal will initially report to Triple-A Worcester and could make $1.35 million if promoted to the big leagues this season. With Wong out, Carlos Narvaez is currently the starting catcher for the Red Sox, who also called up Blake Sabol from Worcester. Grandal brings experience and a strong track record, having been a top catcher with the Dodgers and Brewers before struggling with the White Sox. Despite some defensive shortcomings in recent years, Grandal still possesses power at the plate. The Red Sox were in need of a seasoned player like Grandal to beef up their catching depth following Wong’s injury. The move is seen as a strategic decision by the team’s management to address the current shortage at the position.
