Massachusetts Democrat lawmaker arrested on suspicion of fraud

Democratic Massachusetts state Rep. Christopher Flanagan has been arrested and charged with five counts of wire fraud and one count of falsification of records, according to the Department of Justice. Flanagan allegedly stole $36,000 from the Home Builders Association in Cape Cod to pay for personal and political expenses. He used the funds for mortgage bills, debt payments, and even personal psychic services. Flanagan also falsified expense reports to cover up his actions, claiming purchases for technology services and office supplies when the money was actually used for personal expenses and campaign materials. Flanagan faces up to 20 years in prison for each charge.

Flanagan was the executive officer of the Home Builders Association and was receiving a salary ranging from $65,800 to $81,600 during his time there. He also received additional income from his position as a legislator. Flanagan allegedly began wire transfers from the association’s funds to his personal accounts around October 2021. He wired amounts ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 on multiple occasions until January 2023.

Federal authorities also accused Flanagan of obstructing an investigation by creating a false persona, “Jeanne Louise,” to attribute the source of a campaign mailer. The investigation was carried out by the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance.

Flanagan’s actions have raised concerns about the misuse of funds and the unethical behavior of public officials. The case is ongoing, and Flanagan faces serious charges that could result in significant prison time. Fox News Digital has reached out to Flanagan and his attorney for comment but has not received a response.
