Eric Dane, known for his role in “Grey’s Anatomy,” recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The 52-year-old actor shared the news in a statement to People, expressing gratitude for his family’s support as he navigates this challenging diagnosis. Dane, married to Rebecca Gayheart, has two children, Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13.
Despite his diagnosis, Dane plans to continue working and will be returning to film scenes for the third season of HBO’s drama “Euphoria” next week. ALS is a rare degenerative disease that affects nerve cells and causes the progressive loss of muscle control. There is no known cure for ALS, and patients typically live between three to five years after diagnosis.
Dane joins a list of well-known individuals who have battled ALS, including Stephen Hawking and Aaron Lazar. Recently, Dane called off his impending divorce from Gayheart after being married since 2004. The couple has remained close despite their separation, focusing on co-parenting their children.
With a supportive family by his side, Eric Dane is determined to continue working and face the challenges that come with his ALS diagnosis head-on. As he prepares for the upcoming season of “Euphoria,” Dane’s bravery and determination serve as an inspiration to many as he navigates this difficult chapter in his life.
