CEO of Technology Company Among Those Killed in New York City Incident


Agustin Escobar, CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, his family, and the helicopter pilot were tragically killed when their helicopter crashed into the Hudson River during a sightseeing tour of New York City. The crash, which occurred on April 10, claimed the lives of five members of a Spanish family, including three children, and the 36-year-old pilot. The helicopter, a Bell 206 operated by New York Helicopter, was found upside down in the river. Diving operations were ongoing to recover remaining wreckage while authorities investigated the cause of the crash. The Spanish Prime Minister called it an “unimaginable tragedy.”

Escobar’s wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children aged 4, 5, and 11 also perished in the crash. Siemens confirmed the deaths of Escobar and his family, expressing deep sorrow over the incident. The helicopter tour company, New York Helicopter, offers aerial tours of the city for a fee, and the investigation into the crash was ongoing, with weather conditions being noted at the time of the incident.

The community, including local authorities and the Prime Minister of Spain, expressed condolences for the victims and their families. The recovery efforts included pulling the helicopter from the river, and authorities were working with the families to bring their loved ones home. The tragedy left many questions unanswered, and investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash.
