A recent UMass Amherst/WCVB poll surveyed Massachusetts residents on their views of Governor Maura Healey’s performance on various issues. The results indicate that just over half of respondents believe she is doing her job well, with the highest approval rating for her handling of reproductive rights, followed by education and crime. However, she received the lowest ratings for her work on housing, migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, as well as taxes.
When asked about their top priority for Healey and the State Legislature in the coming year, housing emerged as the most pressing issue, followed by immigration, healthcare, homelessness, and taxes. Furthermore, fewer than half of respondents believe that Healey has fulfilled her promises to reform tax laws, encourage more people to live in Massachusetts, and be more transparent than past governors.
Despite some criticism, the survey also evaluated potential challengers to Healey in the next election, showing that respondents would still choose her over other candidates. Additionally, when asked to describe Healey in one word, responses included positive attributes like “good,” “liberal,” and “progressive,” as well as negative terms like “weak” and “incompetent.”
Overall, the survey highlights the mixed feelings of Massachusetts residents towards Governor Healey’s performance and areas of improvement in her governance.
