A House hearing abruptly ended after a Republican committee member, Rep. Keith Self, misgendered Rep. Sarah McBride, the first openly trans member of Congress. Self then adjourned the hearing, causing chaos in the room.
This incident is not the first time Republican lawmakers have targeted McBride. Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a resolution banning transgender women from using female bathrooms in the Capitol, specifically aimed at McBride. The issue of misgendering and discrimination against transgender individuals has been a growing concern in Congress.
McBride, who made history as the first transgender person elected to Congress, has faced challenges and attacks from some Republican lawmakers. Despite these obstacles, she remains focused on her work and advocacy, highlighting the importance of standing up for transgender rights and representation in government.
