Massachusetts Initiates Campaign to Attract Unemployed Federal Employees

Governor Maura Healey has launched a new website, mass.gov/fedup, to help federal employees who have been laid off find new job opportunities in Massachusetts. The website aims to connect these workers with employment resources and job search tools. Healey emphasized the importance of utilizing the skills, knowledge, and purpose of these individuals to make a difference in Team Massachusetts.

With more than 46,000 federal employees in Massachusetts, including 30,000 in the Greater Boston area, the website provides listings for job openings in various state agencies. The move comes after the federal government offered deferred resignation to 75,000 employees and terminated around 220,000 probationary workers nationwide at the behest of former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Governor Healey criticized these actions as reckless and highlighted the impact on public services.

The new website also caters to veterans, who make up a significant portion of the federal workforce. Resources are available through the state Executive Office of Veterans Services to assist them in finding employment opportunities. Veterans, like Mike Slater, who was laid off from his role at the VA Veterans Center in Springfield, expressed disappointment over the dismissals.

Secretary Jon Santiago of Veterans Services emphasized the importance of supporting veterans and ensuring they have opportunities to continue their mission. The website aims to provide a platform for these individuals to find meaningful employment and contribute to the community.
