PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – During a Spring Breakout game between the Red Sox and Rays, Roman Anthony, the No. 2 prospect on Baseball America’s Top 100 list, faced a heckler chanting “overrated.” Undeterred, Anthony promptly hit a home run over the right field wall. He believes the heckling is a compliment, indicating relevance in the game.
Teammate Kristian Campbell, who was on deck, applauded Anthony’s feat, noting that heckling has occurred before in Triple A. This particular heckler had also taunted Anthony earlier in the game.
Despite recent illness that caused him to lose 10 pounds, Anthony hit the ball hard, although not as hard as his record-breaking 116 mph homer last year. Campbell and Marcelo Mayer also contributed with back-to-back home runs, securing a lead for the Red Sox.
