South High’s girls basketball team secured a spot in the Division 2 championship game with a thrilling 42-39 victory over Whitman-Hanson. Gianah Estevez was the hero of the game, scoring the winning basket with 15 seconds remaining and contributing 21 points, nine rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Estevez’s determination and offensive prowess propelled South High to victory, setting up a rematch against top-seeded Medfield in the championship game.

South High coach Diego McClain praised his team’s defensive effort, as they forced 23 turnovers from Whitman-Hanson while committing only 11 themselves. Despite a strong defensive performance from Whitman-Hanson, South High maintained control of the game and dictated the pace throughout to secure the win.

After last year’s championship loss to Medfield, South High is seeking redemption and another opportunity to claim the title. With their relentless defense and strong performances from players like Bryan Bascones and Lydia Charlonne, South High is poised to make a strong push for the championship. The team’s hard work and resilience have earned them another chance to compete for the title, and they are determined to make the most of it.
