Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, disappeared during a spring break trip to a resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Authorities have identified Joshua Riibe as a person of interest in the case, as he was the last person seen with Konanki before she went missing. Surveillance footage showed Konanki on the beach with friends, but staying behind with Riibe. Riibe was not part of the group Konanki traveled with and is not considered a suspect at this time. The investigation is ongoing, with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office assisting the FBI and local law enforcement.
Reports about what happened to Konanki conflict, with one stating that a man with her passed out on the beach and she disappeared, while another indicated that they had gone into the ocean together and he fell asleep later. Konanki’s father believes authorities should consider other possibilities besides drowning, such as kidnapping or abduction. Her personal items were left with her friends, which was unusual, as she always carried her phone with her.
The Dominican Republic National Police have established a commission to oversee the investigation and are re-interviewing individuals who were near Konanki at the time of her disappearance. The search for Sudiksha Konanki continues, as her family and authorities strive to uncover the truth behind her disappearance.
