A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration violated a restraining order meant to stop the suspension of congressionally approved foreign aid funds. This decision is part of a series of legal actions where Democrats are fighting against Trump and cost-cutting czar Elon Musk in court. The ruling comes as various lawsuits are pending challenging a range of Trump and Musk’s controversial actions, including restrictions on transgender rights, executive orders on immigration, and firings of federal employees.
While courts have blocked Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing records at the Treasury Department temporarily, they have still been able to access information at other agencies. Lawsuits are ongoing challenging actions by the Trump administration on immigration issues, such as detaining undocumented immigrants at Guantanamo Bay. In addition, lawsuits are still pending on federal workers’ rights issues, including storing employees’ data on a private email server.
The Supreme Court may ultimately weigh in on these legal challenges, and it remains to be seen how the 6-3 conservative court, which includes three Trump appointees, will rule. Legal experts have expressed skepticism about some of the administration’s legal justifications, such as Trump’s order nullifying birthright citizenship. Despite some controversial actions by Trump and Musk that have not yet resulted in legal action, the courts have become a key avenue for Democrats to oppose the Trump administration’s policies with litigation playing a significant role in challenging executive orders and decisions.
