Brother of NBA All-Star signs minor-league contract with Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have signed Trayce Thompson, the younger brother of NBA star Klay Thompson, to a minor-league contract. Trayce, a 33-year-old outfielder, spent the 2024 season playing for the Triple-A affiliates of the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs, where he had a batting average of .233 with 23 home runs and 66 RBIs. Despite not playing in the big leagues since 2023, Trayce has played for five different MLB teams over seven seasons, with a career batting average of .212 with 45 home runs and 126 RBIs. While Trayce may not have the same sports pedigree as his brother Klay, he is set to join the Red Sox farm system for added depth in the outfield this season. Fans of the Celtics, who were defeated by Klay’s Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals, may now find themselves supporting the Red Sox as Trayce looks to make an impact in the Boston organization.
