Sharon Horgan stars in the new 4-part series “Best Interests,” where she plays a mother fighting to prevent doctors from pulling the plug on her comatose daughter. The series, streaming on AcornTV, was written by Jack Thorne and delves into disability issues.
Horgan was drawn to the role by Thorne’s writing and her co-star Michael Sheen. Despite initial concerns about exhaustion, she found the role to be emotionally moving.
The series explores the difficult decision-making process when it comes to a disabled child’s care, and the impact it has on those involved. Horgan mentioned the importance of discussing disability issues, especially in a post-COVID world.
Despite the heavy subject matter, Horgan and Sheen found moments of laughter on set to lighten the mood. Their characters end up on opposite sides in a court battle, adding an extra layer of complexity to the story.
“Best Interests” is set to stream on AcornTV starting February 17th.
