As President Donald Trump enters the one-month mark of his second term, CNN polling analyst Harry Enten is warning that inflation could potentially “crush his presidency.” Enten pointed out that if Trump does not focus on addressing inflation, it could have the same detrimental impact on his presidency as it did for former President Joe Biden. Recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that consumer prices rose by 0.5% in January, leading to a 3% inflation rate in the U.S.
Enten highlighted that 66% of Americans believe that Trump is not sufficiently focused on addressing inflation, based on a recent poll. Despite Trump’s promises to tackle inflation during his campaign, public perception seems to indicate a lack of action on this issue. While Trump has received praise for following through on other promises, such as immigration reform, the majority of respondents in a CBS/YouGov poll expressed dissatisfaction with his efforts to lower prices.
With concerns about rising costs impacting Americans, Trump faces the challenge of addressing inflation to ensure the success of his presidency. Failure to do so could lead to negative repercussions similar to what Biden experienced during his term.
