Comparison: ‘Paddington in Peru’ Falls Short of ‘Paddington 2’

The latest addition to the “Paddington” trilogy, “Paddington in Peru,” takes the beloved bear on an Amazonian adventure to reconnect with his roots. Directed by newcomer Dougal Wilson and featuring Antonio Banderas as the villain, the film follows Paddington and the Browns as they search for his missing Aunt Lucy. While still maintaining the charm and heart of the previous films, “Paddington in Peru” lacks the campy verve and mischievousness that made “Paddington 2” a masterpiece. Despite this, the movie still appeals to both children and adults with its touching story of family and acceptance, whimsical production design, and gentle Paddington persona voiced by Ben Whishaw. Although it may not reach the heights of its predecessor, “Paddington in Peru” is still a delightful and entertaining film that pays homage to film history and captures the innocence and purity of the beloved Paddington character.
