ICE detains man found guilty of murdering pregnant girlfriend in Lawrence

59-year-old Dominican national Cesar Augusto Polanco, convicted of a 2007 murder in Massachusetts, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after being released from prison last month. Polanco entered the country legally in 1990 but was convicted of murdering Judith Guevara in 2007 during an argument about his drinking. Guevara, who was pregnant at the time, was the mother of his daughter. ICE issued an immigration detainer against Polanco in 2013, leading to his recent arrest after being granted parole in December.

ICE emphasized that despite entering the country lawfully, Polanco’s violent actions made him a threat to the community, and they will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing violent criminal offenders. The partnership between ICE and the Department of Correction allowed for Polanco’s safe arrest in a jail cell, preventing the need for potentially dangerous community arrests. ICE is committed to ensuring that dangerous individuals like Polanco are removed from New England to protect residents from harm.
