Brian Ellis, a victim of the DC plane crash, an enduring friend

Brian Ellis, a former high school football star and quarterback for the Georgia state high school championship team in 1987, passed away in a mid-air collision over Washington, D.C. at the age of 53. He was known for his leadership and commitment to team values from his high school days through his almost 22-year career as a U.S. Marine Corps officer.

After graduating high school, Ellis attended the U.S. Naval Academy and played football there. He formed lifelong friendships with three classmates, whom he referred to as “the four musketeers.” They played Navy football together, went on summer training cruises, and attended Marine Basic School at Quantico.

As a Marine helicopter pilot and flight instructor for 12 years, Ellis was known for his dedication to his friends and family. He was a godfather to children in the families of his close friends. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2015, Ellis worked for Deloitte as a professional services network. He was traveling on business at the time of his tragic passing.

Ellis is survived by his wife Amy, sons Jack and Luke, and his parents and siblings. His friends and colleagues remember him as a great leader, friend, father, and lacrosse coach. His legacy lives on in his commitment to teamwork, dedication to service, and enduring friendships.
