Haitian national arrested by ICE after sanctuary city policies ignored
Jean Yves Ovilme, 37, was arrested by ICE after a detainer against him was ignored in Massachusetts. Ovilme was charged with indecent assault and battery and assault and battery against a person 14 or older. ICE stated that he legally entered the U.S. in 2023 but violated the terms of his admission.
ICE Boston ERO acting Field Office Director Patricia Hyde stated that Ovilme posed a significant danger to Massachusetts neighborhoods and that ICE would continue its mission of arresting and removing illegal alien offenders. This arrest comes as Boston Mayor Michelle Wu faces questions about sanctuary policies and has been called before Congress. U.S. Rep. James Comer invited Wu and other mayors to testify on sanctuary policies and their impact on public safety.
The details surrounding Ovilme’s case are still developing, including how he made it from Florida to Boston. The Suffolk DA’s office has no record of Ovilme in their system. ICE’s arrest of Ovilme is seen as a direct hit against sanctuary city policies.
