The brewing tension between the Wu administration and the Kraft Group over plans for a new soccer stadium in Everett has escalated, as negotiations over a community mitigation agreement have hit a roadblock. Emails obtained by the Herald show that the two sides are far apart in their discussions, with the city finding the Krafts’ initial $750,000 offer unacceptable. Boston was excluded from the process to bring the stadium to Everett, despite potential impacts on nearby neighborhoods like Charlestown.
The situation took a political turn when it was revealed that Josh Kraft, son of Patriots owner Robert Kraft, plans to enter the 2025 mayoral race against Wu. The Kraft Group emphasizes that the stadium project in Everett will primarily benefit that city, but they are willing to negotiate a fair agreement with Boston. Mediation may be required if an agreement is not reached by May 1.
Both sides acknowledge ongoing negotiations, with plans for a staff-level meeting in the coming weeks to address the project’s impacts on Boston’s neighborhoods.
