King Charles III expressed his deep sorrow over the recent American Airlines plane crash that resulted in the loss of all 67 individuals on board after colliding with a military helicopter and crashing into the Potomac River. The monarch extended his sympathy to the families of the victims and commended the emergency responders for their quick action.
Among the victims were 14 youth figure skaters, including six members of The Skating Club of Boston, who had been in Kansas for a skating camp. The club expressed their devastation over the loss of the skaters, coaches, and parents who were on the flight, including Spencer Lane, Jinna Han, Molly Lane, Jin Han, Evgenia Shishkova, and Vadim Naumov.
The tragic news was addressed by CEO Doug Zeghibe, who mentioned that Maxim Naumov, the son of coaches Shishkova and Naumov, had been competing in Wichita and had left before the crash occurred. Olympic figure skater Scott Hamilton also discussed the impact of the tragedy on the skating community on the “Today Show,” pointing out the profound loss felt by everyone involved.
The recovery efforts to locate and salvage the wreckage of the crash were ongoing, with law enforcement and investigators working to retrieve the fuselage from the Potomac River. The entire skating community, as well as the wider public, came together to mourn the loss of the talented young skaters and individuals who perished in the tragic incident.
