A Facebook post claiming that two individuals pardoned by President Donald Trump for their involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack were killed within 24 hours has been found to be false. One of the individuals mentioned, Matthew Huttle, was indeed killed during a traffic stop on Jan. 26, but the second individual, Tamara Towers Parry, was fatally shot in October 2024, months before the pardons were given. Parry was never charged in relation to the Capitol attack. Huttle, who had an extensive criminal record, had pleaded guilty to entering a restricted building and was sentenced to six months in prison. The claim that two pardoned Jan. 6 defendants were killed in quick succession after receiving pardons is unsubstantiated, as there are no reports from credible sources supporting this assertion. The post on TikTok that also circulated this claim received more than 25,000 shares.USA TODAY debunked various related claims, including false reports that members of Congress filed impeachment articles and that a police union rescinded its Trump endorsement over the pardons. Lead Stories also debunked the claim. The alleged links between the deaths of the two individuals mentioned in the post and the pardons they received are not supported by factual evidence.
