Ford issues recall for over 270,000 Broncos and Mavericks over power loss issue

Ford Motor Co. announced a recall of 272,827 Broncos and Mavericks due to a power problem that could cause vehicles to stop unexpectedly or fail to start. The issue is related to a 12-volt battery made by Camel Battery of China with internal manufacturing defects such as weld failures. Fortunately, there have been no reports of accidents, fires, or injuries caused by this problem.

The affected vehicles were manufactured between February 2021 and October 2023, after which Ford discontinued the use of these specific batteries. The company has pledged to improve its recall decision-making process in response to previous criticism. The National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration mentioned that some vehicles lost power, including the ability to turn on hazard lights without warning. The solution involves software updates to enhance the detection of battery issues and provide warnings to drivers.

Ford has committed to three years of monitoring by an independent third party after being fined for slow action on a previous recall. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified and advised on the necessary steps to ensure their safety.
