Millions Urged to Stay Home as Storm Éowyn Disrupts UK and Ireland – Live Updates on UK Weather

Millions of people in the UK have been urged to stay at home as Storm Éowyn brings record-breaking 100mph winds, causing travel disruption across the country. Emergency alerts were sent to about 4.5 million people warning of the incoming storm, with multiple amber and yellow weather warnings issued for wind and rain. Rail services, flights, and ferries have been cancelled, with red weather warnings in place in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland’s first minister, Michelle O’Neill, urged residents to stay home, while more than 93,000 homes and businesses were left without power in Northern Ireland. In the Republic of Ireland, over 715,000 homes, farms, and businesses were without power.

Forecasters warned of potential damage to buildings, uprooted trees, power cuts, and dangerous driving conditions. Several trees were uprooted in Galway and a multimillion-euro indoor playing facility in County Mayo was destroyed by the storm.

Schools and nurseries across Scotland were closed, with thousands left without power in the center and south of Scotland. The Scottish and Southern Electricity Network reported over 2,500 customers without power, with the number expected to increase.

National pet charity Blue Cross provided advice for dog owners on how to keep their pets safe during the storm. Motorists were advised to park away from trees, avoid coastal routes, and watch out for debris. Public buildings, including libraries, were closed, and non-urgent planned hospital procedures were postponed in some areas. Stay safe and stay updated with the latest weather warnings.
