Palestinians Condemn Israel’s ‘Barbaric’ Attack on Nuseirat Refugee Camp in Gaza

In a devastating Israeli strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, at least 33 people were killed, most of them from the al-Sheikh Ali family. The attack, described by Palestinian authorities as a “barbaric and heinous massacre”, targeted a residential block housing civilians, including children, women, and displaced individuals. Medics reported that a postal office and nearby houses were hit, leaving about 50 people wounded in addition to the dead.

Israeli attacks in Gaza have resulted in the complete destruction of 902 families in the past year, according to the Government Media Office in Gaza. Facilities housing displaced families have been targeted, with Israeli forces justifying these actions by claiming ties to Hamas. Medical facilities, journalists, and humanitarian workers have also been consistently attacked, with more than 44,800 Palestinians killed, over half of them women and children.

The watchdog group Airwars released a report condemning Israel’s campaign in Gaza as the most intense conflict for civilians they have ever recorded. The death toll is likely undercounted, with thousands more potentially buried beneath rubble. The attack on Nuseirat targeted a residential area in a historic refugee camp, with other strikes occurring throughout the day, including one that killed a top doctor.

The Government Media Office in Gaza highlighted the strain on the medical system, with ongoing attacks on hospitals and medical centers, as well as a blockade preventing the entry of essential supplies. The recent strike was seen as part of Israel’s efforts to weaken healthcare services in Gaza.
