Bill Belichick, the former head coach of the New England Patriots, is reportedly in discussions with the University of North Carolina for their football program’s head coaching job. Belichick, 72, is requesting a guarantee that his son, Stephen Belichick, will be his heir in the program. The elder Belichick also intends to hire longtime coaching assistant Matt Patricia and Houston Texans’ passing coordinator Ben McDaniels, along with a GM to handle recruiting and NIL business. Despite speculation that Belichick may return to coaching in the NFL in 2025, he is open to the college coaching move and is not using it as leverage for NFL offers. While several NFL teams have fired their head coaches this season, Belichick’s preference remains a return to the NFL, but securing his son’s coaching position may lead him to college coaching. With potential staff members in mind and UNC reportedly open to his conditions, Belichick’s future coaching plans remain uncertain.
