Boston City Councilor Fernandes Anderson is arrested and charged with fraud.

City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson from Boston has been indicted by a federal grand jury on public corruption charges related to a kickback scheme in which she received thousands of dollars from a staff employee in exchange for a large bonus. She was arrested by FBI agents outside her home in Dorchester and now faces charges of wire fraud and theft. Anderson allegedly violated conflict of interest laws by hiring family members at City Hall and increasing their salaries in the past. She also gave a staff member, who is a relative, a $13,000 bonus under the condition that a portion of the money would be given back to her. The staff member withdrew $7,000 from the bonus and handed it to Anderson in a City Hall bathroom. No one else has been charged in connection to the case, but the investigation is ongoing. Anderson, who was elected in 2021, has a diverse background including working as a social worker, business owner, and advocate for Boston Public Schools. The FBI is asking for anyone with information on the case to come forward.
