His mother, Penelope Hegseth, recently spoke out in his defense, praising his character and calling him a “new person” following a leaked email from 2018 that accused him of being “an abuser of women.” Despite the allegations, Trump has continued to support Hegseth, but is reportedly considering Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a replacement.
Penelope Hegseth, known as Penny, has limited public online presence and has previously appeared on Fox News with her son for a Mother’s Day special in 2019. She described Pete as an “amazing son and father” and emphasized their strong family faith. In the leaked email, she expressed disappointment in her son’s behavior during his divorce, but in a recent Fox News appearance, she stated that he has changed and is now a “new person.”
Penny Hegseth explained that she wrote the email out of haste and deep emotions, and that she believes her son has been redeemed, forgiven, and changed in the seven years since the email was sent. She continues to support him and believes he is the right person for the Defense Secretary role. Despite the controversies, Pete Hegseth remains determined to fight for his position.
