The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation expressed sadness over the death of a child at the Arizona Biltmore, which was influenced by Wright’s architectural style. An 8-year-old boy was struck by a falling statue at the resort and later died of his injuries. The foundation’s chief marketing officer, Henry Hendrix, conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family and shared in their sorrow. The statue that struck the boy was a “sprite,” depicting a mythical guardian over the land, and was part of a series inspired by Wright’s designs at the Midway Gardens project in Chicago. The statues at the Biltmore were replicas created in the 1980s and gifted to the resort. While they are not considered historic artifacts, the foundation acknowledged the tragedy and expressed support for those affected by the child’s passing. Our hearts are with the family during this unimaginably difficult time.
