Trump selects Massad Boulos as adviser for Arab and Middle Eastern affairs

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Lebanese American businessman Massad Boulos as a senior adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs. Boulos, who is the father-in-law of Trump’s daughter Tiffany, met with Arab American and Muslim leaders during the election campaign. This is the second time Trump has chosen a family member’s relative to serve in his administration, with Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, also being appointed as the U.S. ambassador to France. Boulos campaigned for Trump and played a role in appealing to Arab American and Muslim voters during the campaign.

Boulos has strong ties in Lebanon and the Arab world, with powerful political roots in both countries. He has maintained relations with various factions in Lebanon, including Hezbollah, and has connections to Christian parties aligned with the group. Boulos was instrumental in flipping Arab American and Muslim voters in Michigan in favor of Trump, assuring them of Trump’s commitment to ending conflicts in the Middle East. He spent weeks on the ground in various states with large Arab American and Muslim populations, mobilizing support for Trump.

While Boulos previously ran for Lebanon’s parliament, he has not consistently aligned himself with any specific party in the country. His new role as a senior adviser to Trump could give him a platform to exert political influence that he may not have achieved in Lebanon. Lebanese people are hopeful about having a friendly face in Trump’s circle, believing that he may work towards benefiting Lebanon’s interests.
