‘Six’ makes a historical comeback in Boston with a stunning spectacle

The musical “Six” at the Emerson Colonial Theatre tells the story of Henry VIII’s wives in a concert-meets-musical-meets-glittering spectacle. While most of the wives met horrible fates, Anna of Cleves is portrayed as the exception who lived a quiet and comfortable life after her annulment from Henry. Actress Danielle Mendoza plays both Anne Boleyn and Anna of Cleves in the show, enjoying the contrast between the mischievous troublemaker Anne and the confident and content Cleves. The show uses original contemporary pop songs to tell a story about misogyny, women’s history, and the patriarchy in a palatable and enjoyable way. Despite some backlash, “Six” has been a hit on Broadway with its unique blend of perfect pop music and dark history. The audience can enjoy the show, but the queens in the story cannot. For an entertaining and educational experience, viewers are encouraged to see “Six” at the Emerson Colonial Theatre before it ends on December 29. Visit boston.broadway.com for tickets and details.
