Jaguars coach says Trevor Lawrence ‘hit has no place’ in NFL

In a game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans, Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a vicious hit to the head in the second quarter. Lawrence will enter the NFL’s concussion protocol, but is expected to be okay. The hit by Texans linebacker Aziz Al-Shaair sparked a scrum on the field as Lawrence remained down. Lawrence, who was playing his first game back after a shoulder injury, was ruled out for the rest of the game and taken to the locker room on a cart. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson criticized the hit, calling it unacceptable in the league. It is unclear if Lawrence will play again this season. Mac Jones replaced Lawrence and performed well, throwing two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Texans coach DeMeco Ryans defended Al-Shaair, saying the hit was out of character for him. Lawrence was seen leaving the locker room with his wife after the game. Jones is expected to start in Lawrence’s place in the next game against the Tennessee Titans.
