Bruins reveal new bronze bear statue in honor of 100th anniversary celebration

The Boston Bruins unveiled a new statue on Causeway Street to commemorate a century of hockey in Boston. The bronze statue of a roaring bear represents the passion and ferocity of the Original Six franchise. During the unveiling ceremony, Bruins captain Brad Marchand highlighted the team’s importance to the city and honored the legends of the past and present. The statue stands six feet tall, is 10 feet long, and weighs over 3,500 pounds, consisting of 90 bronze pieces welded together. Several Bruins legends, including Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito, were present at the event, along with Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. The statue was sculpted by Harry Weber, who also created the iconic statue of Bobby Orr at TD Garden. The ceremony marked the conclusion of over a year of celebrations for the Bruins’ centennial milestone. At the event, Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs expressed optimism for the team’s future and hoped for a win in the upcoming game against the Montreal Canadiens. Changes were also made to the power play unit during practice, with David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand split up to give the units a different look. The NHL Department of Player Safety fined Nikita Zadorov and Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin for their on-ice altercation. Overall, the unveiling of the statue was a significant moment for the Bruins and their fans as they celebrated a century of hockey excellence in Boston.
