Penguins defeat Bruins as Boston slides down in standings

The Boston Bruins suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to the Pittsburgh Penguins at TD Garden on Black Friday, marking their worst game since interim coach Joe Sacco took over. Despite scoring early in the game with a goal from Charlie Coyle, the Bruins were unable to find the back of the net again. Rickard Rakell scored with less than a second left in the second period to tie the game 1-1 heading into the third. Philip Tomasino then netted the game-winning goal for the Penguins with 13:34 left in the final period. Despite a late push with the goalie pulled, the Bruins were unable to equalize, with Pittsburgh outshooting them throughout the game. Goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 33 saves in the losing effort. The Bruins will look to bounce back when they host the Montreal Canadiens for their 100th anniversary game on Sunday. The game was not short of drama, with Nikita Zadorov receiving an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and potential misconduct after jabbing at Evgeni Malkin during the match.
