Two people were injured in a cooking-related fire in Lakeville on Friday afternoon. The incident took place on Woodland Ridge Drive around 2 p.m., according to the Lakeville Fire Department. Although the fire was quickly extinguished, injuries were reported.
The fire was caused by a traditional Portuguese dish called Chouriço à Bomberio, also known as “firefighter’s chourico.” This dish involves cooking the meal in a serving dish over an open flame. During the cooking process, alcohol is added to maintain the flame, which led to a flash fire in this particular situation.
The fire department is reminding the public to exercise caution when using open flames while cooking to prevent similar incidents. The two individuals injured in the fire are currently receiving medical treatment, and their condition is unknown at this time. Authorities are investigating the incident further to determine the cause and prevent similar accidents in the future.
