Disney requested a controversial joke about Mickey Mouse be removed from the script of the Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman Marvel movie, “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The joke, which referenced Mickey Mouse’s anatomy, was ultimately cut from the final film at Disney CEO Bob Iger’s request. Despite this, the movie made other digs at Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe that were allowed to remain.
The official script for “Deadpool & Wolverine” has since been released by Disney, revealing the cut joke that caused some controversy. Director Shawn Levy mentioned that the removed line was replaced with an equally dirty joke involving Pinocchio. The movie, known for its irreverent humor, also featured jabs at the personal lives of Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Garner.
Despite the rough humor, “Deadpool & Wolverine” was a massive success, becoming Marvel’s first R-rated release and grossing $1.3 billion at the box office. The movie has even boosted Disney’s performance on Wall Street.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” is now available for streaming on Disney+, showcasing the darker side of the Marvel universe and the conflict between creative freedom and corporate demands in the entertainment industry.
