Oak Park Police detective Allan Reddins, 40, was killed in the line of duty after responding to a report of an armed suspect leaving a bank just outside of Chicago. Reddins was shot in the left side while responding to the call, and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The suspect, who was also shot in the leg, was taken into custody and remains in stable condition. Reddins, a Chicago resident, had been with the Oak Park Police Department since May 2019. This marks the first line of duty death for the department since 1938. The village of Oak Park extended its deepest condolences to Reddins’ family, friends, and colleagues within the police department and law enforcement community. The incident is being mourned as a senseless act of violence, and the community is grieving the loss of a dedicated officer.
