The theater community is in mourning following the tragic passing of Canadian stage actor Julien Arnold. Arnold, who founded the Shakespeare theater company Free Will Players, died on Nov. 24 after experiencing a medical emergency during a performance of “A Christmas Carol” at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Arnold, who was playing multiple roles in the production, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In response to his passing, the theater announced modifications to the remaining dates of the play to allow the cast and crew time to grieve. Arnold, who had a long career in theater and was a founding member of Free Will Players, left a lasting impact on the acting community.
Citadel Theatre’s executive director and artistic director shared a heartfelt message about Arnold’s contributions to the industry, noting his talent and the joy he brought to every role. They asked for privacy and patience as they support Arnold’s family, the cast and crew of “A Christmas Carol,” and theater patrons during this difficult time.
Arnold’s passing has left a void in the theater community, and his artistic contributions will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working with him.
