President-elect Donald Trump’s team claimed credit for the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire deal brokered by the Biden administration and other world leaders. Trump’s pick for national security adviser, Rep. Mike Waltz, argued that everyone came to the table because of President Trump’s message of intolerance for chaos. However, the Biden administration stated that Trump’s team was not directly involved in the negotiation but was briefed on the agreement. The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect in Lebanon, giving Israel time to withdraw troops and Hezbollah to move away from Israel’s border. President Joe Biden expressed that the deal was aimed at a permanent cessation of hostilities and peace is possible. Senator Lindsey Graham praised the agreement, giving credit to both Trump’s team and Biden. Despite the attempt by Trump’s transition team to take credit for the deal, they did not respond to requests for comment. The Biden administration emphasized that they kept Trump and his team informed of the negotiations and updates leading up to the agreement. The announcement of the ceasefire reflects efforts to deescalate tensions in the Middle East and work towards a lasting peace.
