Harun Abdul-Malik Yener, a 30-year-old man from Florida, was arrested by federal law enforcement for allegedly planning to detonate a bomb at the New York Stock Exchange this week. Yener, of Coral Springs, expressed his intention to cause destruction and harm, comparing himself to Osama bin Laden and showing anti-government sentiments. He was charged with attempting to use an explosive device to damage a building used in interstate commerce. The FBI began investigating Yener in February 2024 after receiving a tip that he had bombmaking schematics in a storage unit. Agents found bombmaking sketches and electronic components in the unit.
Yener met with an undercover FBI agent and discussed plans to detonate an improvised explosive device at the NYSE using a two-way radio, intending to cause significant damage. He expressed a desire for a revolution in the country and mentioned potential further attacks following the NYSE bombing. Yener is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 4. His court-appointed public defender is representing him, and USA TODAY reached out for further information. Yener’s case highlights ongoing concerns about extremism and domestic terrorism in the United States.
