Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham has offered the incoming Trump administration a parcel of over 1,400 acres in Starr County to stage mass deportation operations in January. The land was purchased by the Texas General Land Office in October to facilitate the construction of additional border wall, a project halted by the Biden administration. Buckingham expressed her support for Trump’s pledge to deport violent criminals and emphasized the need for safe communities.
The offer was made in a letter to Trump, where Buckingham stated her office’s readiness to collaborate with DHS, ICE, or Border Patrol in building a facility for processing and detaining criminals. The Texas ranch land had been a hotspot for drug smuggling and human trafficking before the state’s purchase. Buckingham believes the eagerness of the Trump administration to ramp up deportation efforts reflects the will of the American people for stronger border security.
While some states like Arizona, Illinois, and Massachusetts have expressed opposition to deportation efforts, Buckingham remains committed to assisting the Trump administration in getting criminals out of the country. She sees the election as a validation of Trump’s border security policies and a rejection of the Biden administration’s approach to illegal immigration. Despite potential opposition, the incoming administration appears determined to carry out its deportation operation in collaboration with states like Texas.
