Nearly two dozen people were stuck on the Sol Spin ride at Knott’s Berry Farm in Southern California for over two hours due to a malfunction on Monday. The riders were trapped mid-air and had to be rescued by 4:30 p.m. Two women were taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the park. The Sol Spin ride, which opened in 2017, is listed as the park’s highest thrill level attraction and provides a unique experience for guests as they rotate in all directions on spinning arms. The ride is said to make riders feel like they are airborne while suspended and flipping above the ground. The Sol Spin ride replaced Windseeker, another Mondial Rides attraction that experienced malfunctions in 2012, leaving riders stranded hundreds of feet in the air. Videos taken by local television stations show riders suspended in the floorless coaster seats while waiting to be rescued. The Sol Spin ride is manufactured by Netherlands-based Mondial Rides and is designed to provide thrill-seekers with a unique and exhilarating experience at the amusement park.
